Brown pelicans and their history in the United States.

Brown pelicans were always around whenever I went out to see shore birds in Texas. Back in the 70s, they were listed as endangered in the United States when pesticides, such as DDT, in their food thinned their egg shells and the population declined dramatically. DDT was banned in 1972, and the population has been coming back since then. It's so scary to learn that things used in growing crops can cause such a detrimental effect in the long run.
